We are always looking for committed volunteers to the program. Volunteers range from former college and minor pro hockey players to enthusiasts who may have played recreationally. Others still simply have a love of the game. We are also looking for volunteers who can support our after school programming as mentors and tutors. If you are a looking to volunteer as a coach, mentor or after school tutor, please contact our office at 212-722-0044.
Ice Hockey in Harlem serves over 200 students each academic season to play the port of hockey. Hockey volunteers spend one two and a half hour evening session per week providing coaching assistance to our students. Coaches work with a team to ensure that students are taught the fundamentals of ice hockey. Ice Hockey in Harlem is looking for committed volunteers who can help coach from October through April of each academic season. It is best for interested volunteers to submit an application from April through September of each academic season for consideration. Once the season has begun, applications will be considered on an as needed basis and entered into full consideration when preparations for the new season begin. All coaches must be certified by USA Hockey, attend mandatory USA Hockey clinics and complete online coaching modules. As the schedule and availability permits, coaches might be asked to travel and should be prepared to do so for away games on weekends.
Ice Hockey in Harlem is seeking volunteers, particularly with educational experience, to assist with off ice programming. Education programs take place in Harlem at select publics schools and community centers once a week from October through April. Interested volunteers should be available for regular evening programming.
Ice Hockey in Harlem receives regular donations of equipment that may or may not be appropriate for our student-athletes to use. On the third Saturday of every month, Ice Hockey in Harlem offers a two-hour inventory management activity to help keep equipment supplies at the levels needed for the program to run. Volunteers with an attention to detail and some heavy lifting required.
Each summer, Ice Hockey in Harlem operates local summer camps for students in the program. We are seeking volunteers who can spend a weekend in July, August or September facilitating a positive camp experience for students. Responsibilities include getting students to and from camp and assisting coaches managing on ice activities. There are coaching possibilities as a facilitator or assistant pending staff review of qualifications.
